Q-Spa Review & Test Results

The Q-Spa is a portable, rechargeable hydrogen bath device designed for direct immersion in water. The device operates for approximately 20 minutes and uses a membrane-free electrolytic assembly that produces a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen gas. The manufacturer lists the system as producing approximately two parts hydrogen to one part oxygen.

Because the Q-Spa produces oxyhydrogen rather than separated hydrogen, H2HUBB determined that H2Blue® titration would not provide the most appropriate dissolved-hydrogen measurement. H2HUBB therefore commissioned H2 Analytics to evaluate the device using gas chromatography.

In 3 liters of water after 20 minutes, the laboratory measured approximately 1.04 mg/L of dissolved molecular hydrogen. The report also lists approximately 1.14 mg/L when quasi-dissolved and dissolved hydrogen were considered together.

In 4.5 liters under the reported room-temperature condition, the dissolved-hydrogen result was approximately 1.26 mg/L. When 4.5 liters of water were tested at approximately 38°C, the dissolved-hydrogen concentration was approximately 0.75 mg/L. The lower warm-water result illustrates that water temperature and gas loss can significantly affect the amount of hydrogen retained in the water.

Although the laboratory also evaluated 15-liter and 150-liter volumes, their numerical results are not included in the public H2HUBB summary report. The verified 3-liter and 4.5-liter concentrations should therefore not be assigned to an entire bathtub. Based on the published data, H2HUBB positions the Q-Spa most strongly as a portable hydrogen footbath or targeted soaking device.

The approximate dissolved-hydrogen dose was calculated by multiplying the measured concentration by the tested water volume:

Actual dissolved-hydrogen concentration may vary with water volume, temperature, mineral content, device condition, battery charge, bubble movement, room ventilation, and the amount of time between cycle completion and use.

Independent Test Procedure

H2HUBB first evaluated the Q-Spa’s membrane-free oxyhydrogen design to determine an appropriate measurement method. Because the device produces both hydrogen and oxygen, H2HUBB commissioned H2 Analytics to measure dissolved hydrogen using gas chromatography rather than H2Blue® titration.

The laboratory evaluated water volumes of 3, 4.5, 15, and 150 liters. The public summary report provides numerical dissolved-hydrogen findings for the 3-liter and 4.5-liter conditions. Each published result represents a 20-minute operating cycle.

Chlorine-Production Testing

H2HUBB separately evaluated whether the membrane-free electrolysis system could increase chlorine when chloride was present in the water.

In the municipal-water test, the water began with approximately 1.0 mg/L of chlorine and remained at approximately 1.0 mg/L after the 20-minute cycle. Under a deliberately challenging high-salt condition, distilled water was adjusted to approximately 1,000 TDS using sodium chloride and reached approximately 5.0 mg/L of chlorine after 20 minutes.

Do not add salt, sodium chloride, bath salts, or other chloride-containing substances to the operating water unless their use is specifically authorized in the current Q-Spa instructions. Follow the manufacturer’s water, cleaning, maintenance, charging, and operating guidance.

Operating and Maintenance Guidance

Charge the Q-Spa fully before use, confirm that the charging-port seal is tightly closed, place the unit into the prepared water, and press the power button to begin the 20-minute cycle. The manufacturer lists a full charging time of approximately three to four hours and up to five operating cycles per charge.

Qlife recommends periodic citric-acid cleaning to reduce mineral-scale accumulation. Refer to the current product manual for cleaning frequency, water selection, safe immersion, storage, and charging instructions.
