Beneficial effects of hydrogen-rich saline against spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury in rabbits.
In rabbits, here, the researchers found that I/R-challenged rabbits exhibited significant spinal cord injury characterized by the decreased numbers of normal motor neurons and hind-limb motor dysfunction, which was significantly ameliorated by 5mL/kg and 10mL/kg hydrogen-rich saline treatment before reperfusion or 10mL/kg hydrogen-rich saline treatment after reperfusion. These results are preclinical and suggest molecular hydrogen's therapeutic potential in the condition studied. Further human research is needed to establish clinical effectiveness.
