Protective effects of hydrogen gas against spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury.
In male Sprague-Dawley rats, immunofluorescence indicated the expression of glutamate transporter-1 in the spinal ischemia group was significantly decreased compared with the sham group, which was attenuated by 3% hydrogen gas inhalation. These results are preclinical and suggest molecular hydrogen's therapeutic potential in the condition studied. Further human research is needed to establish clinical effectiveness.
