The Gaura Silmare Pulse 120 is a compact portable hydrogen inhaler manufactured by VHLife. It uses PEM/SPE membrane electrolysis to generate molecular hydrogen and provides both continuous delivery and breath-synchronized GMMS pulse operation.

Independent H2HUBB testing measured approximately 150 mL/min of molecular hydrogen at SATP, equivalent to approximately 12.38 mg/min. This exceeded and confirmed the manufacturer-rated 120 mL/min hydrogen output.

The device separately vented approximately 75 mL/min of oxygen through its anode outlet, producing approximately 225 mL/min of total electrolysis gas. The oxygen outlet must remain unobstructed whenever the system is operating.

Portable Hydrogen Inhaler Performance

During continuous operation, the Gaura Silmare Pulse 120 produces hydrogen at a steady rate of approximately 2.5 mL per second. Using the current H2HUBB inhaled-H₂ concentration model, approximately 50 mL of hydrogen is delivered during the inhalation portions of each minute.

At an adult resting minute ventilation of 6.5–7.5 L/min, this corresponds to approximately 0.67–0.77% estimated inhaled H₂ in continuous mode. VE, or minute ventilation, is the total volume of air a person breathes each minute.

Actual inhaled concentration varies with breathing rate, minute ventilation, cannula fit, mouth breathing, tubing resistance, gas leakage, and the selected operating mode.

Pulse Hydrogen Inhaler and GMMS Test Results

The GMMS pulse hydrogen inhaler system detects negative pressure at the nasal cannula and releases stored hydrogen during inhalation. Hydrogen continues to accumulate within the pulse reservoir while the user exhales, reducing the amount released between breaths.

H2HUBB observed approximately 7.5–10 mL of hydrogen per detected inhalation at breathing intervals of approximately three to four seconds. Breath-trigger reliability was approximately 90–100% during the evaluation.

At approximately 20 breaths per minute, the observed pulse volume corresponds to approximately 150–200 mL of hydrogen delivered during the inhalation periods of each minute. At 6.5–7.5 L/min resting minute ventilation, this produces approximately 2.00–3.08% estimated inhaled H₂.

Pulse mode does not continuously generate 360 mL/min of hydrogen. It concentrates the device’s existing production into the inhalation window, which can increase the inspired hydrogen fraction by approximately three to four times compared with continuous delivery at the same breathing rate.

When no breathing was detected, H2HUBB observed a reservoir-release interval of approximately 6–6.5 seconds and a measured release of approximately 13–15 mL. The calculated pulse-reservoir capacity was approximately 15–16.25 mL.

PEM/SPE System and Current Manufacturer Features

The device uses a two-cell PEM/SPE stack. Based on measured hydrogen production, H2HUBB estimated approximately 10.5 A of operating current, approximately 40–50 W of stack power, and approximately 94% electrolytic efficiency.

VHLife currently lists a maximum power requirement of 60 W, a 350 mL reservoir, AC 100–240 V operation, dimensions of approximately 130 × 130 × 214 mm, and a weight of approximately 1.6 kg.

VHLife states that the system produces 99.995% hydrogen purity. H2HUBB did not perform a gas-purity analysis during this evaluation, so the exact purity figure should be identified as a manufacturer specification rather than an independently verified result.

H2HUBB Safety and Operational Assessment

H2HUBB identified low-water protection, water-quality monitoring, timer and idle protection, GMMS auto start and stop, hydrogen-line blockage protection, high-cell-temperature protection, internal fans, large heat vents, and automatic shutdown during alarm conditions.
